Got Grub? String Of Food Truck Robberies Hits Montgomery County, Police Say

Surveillance images have been released of suspects believed to be responsible for multiple food truck robberies throughout Montgomery County, authorities say.

Two men, appearing to be in their late teens to early twenties, began robbing the food trucks in January 2023, according to a Montgomery County Police Department spokesperson. 

Detectives began investigating the string of robberies on Monday, Jan. 23, after reports of a robbery in the 14000 block of Georgia Avenue in Silver Spring at Elvira's Kitchen Food Truck, police say.

Investigators say that the suspects vaulted the barrier of the food truck and climbed inside, and reached for their waistbands. The employee of the truck fled before the suspects stole an undisclosed amount of cash.

Detectives later learned that several other locations had experienced similar robberies with suspects that matched the description of the Jan. 23 robberies. 

The following robberies include:

  • Vanessa’s Pupuseria in the 8500 block of Piney Branch Road, on Thursday, Feb. 2, 2023, at approximately 5:05 p.m.
  • Pupuseria Luisa in the 6500 block of New Hampshire Avenue, in Takoma Park on Friday, Jan. 27, 2023, at approximately 4 p.m.
  • Pupuseria y Taqueria Lupita Food Truck in the 6400 block of New Hampshire Avenue, in Takoma Park on Friday, Jan. 20, 2023, at approximately 3 p.m.
  • Pupuseria Luisa in the 6500 block of New Hampshire Avenue, in Takoma Park on January 13, in Takoma Park on Friday, Jan. 13, 2023, at approximately 2 p.m.
